President-elect Donald Trump has officially confirmed his nomination of Republican Representative Elise Stefanik as the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, a position that will see her join his Cabinet. In an exclusive interview with The New York Post, Trump praised Stefanik as a strong, determined leader who embodies the "America First" principles.
"I am truly honored to nominate Chairwoman Elise Stefanik to serve in my Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations," Trump said. "Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter."
Stefanik, who has represented New York's 21st Congressional District, accepted the nomination with gratitude, saying, “I am truly honored to earn President Trump’s nomination to serve in his Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.”
Stefanik's Record: Strong Support for Israel and Global Security
Stefanik is widely known for her staunch defense of Israel and her outspoken criticism of the Biden administration's foreign policies. Just hours before her nomination announcement, Stefanik used her platform on social media to criticize President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for waiving terrorism sanctions on the Palestinian government. She condemned their decision to overlook the Palestinian Authority's "pay-to-slay" policies, which reward terrorists who target Israelis. "Thankfully, the Biden-Harris Administration’s rewarding of terrorists at the expense of our great ally Israel is coming to an end," Stefanik wrote.
Her pro-Israel stance has been a cornerstone of her political career. In December 2023, Stefanik participated in a high-profile congressional hearing where she questioned university presidents about their responses to rising anti-Semitism on campus. She asked directly if advocating for the genocide of Jews violated their codes of conduct—an inquiry that garnered national attention.
A Strong Critic of Biden's Foreign Policy
As a leading Republican voice on foreign policy, Stefanik has consistently criticized President Biden's approach to global security. She has been vocal about what she perceives as Biden's weak stance toward U.S. adversaries like Russia, Iran, and China. In a House Republican press conference earlier this year, Stefanik argued that under Biden, "the world is less safe," and called for a return to the "peace through strength" strategy that characterized Trump's presidency.
Stefanik has long been a strong advocate for U.S. support of Israel, and has stated that the fight against Hamas is a battle between "good versus evil" and "civilization versus barbarism." Her record shows she has sponsored or supported every piece of legislation that strengthens the U.S.-Israel relationship.
Stefanik's Vision for the UN
As U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Stefanik is expected to focus on promoting America's interests abroad and reinforcing its alliances, especially with Israel. She has been an outspoken critic of anti-Israel sentiment at the UN and has advocated for reforms to ensure that the organization does not unfairly target the Jewish state.
