A suicide drone launched from Iraqi territory hit the port area in Israel's Red Sea resort city of Eilat Wednesday evening, causing some damage and lightly wounding two people. Magen David Adom paramedics reportedly treated a 68-year-old man and a 28-year-old man on the scene, neither of whom required hospitalization. Another drone was intercepted by a Sa'ar 5 Corvette of the Israeli Navy cruising in the Red Sea.
The Iran-backed Islamic Resistance in Iraq took responsibility for the drones, adding in their statement that they had struck a "vital target" in Israel.
The group had launched several weapons at Eilat in recent weeks, including a barrage late Tuesday and into Wednesday morning, none of which penetrated Israeli airspace. Some drones they've fired in the past were intercepted outside Israeli airspace or landed in unpopulated areas in the Arava Desert.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon reported on Thursday that "dozens" of additional US military personnel are being deployed to Cyprus in order to be available to assist in evacuating US citizens from Lebanon if necassary.
