El Al Israel Airlines has announced a strategic shift in its flight schedule following the suspension of its Tel Aviv-Moscow routes for the next three months. This decision comes after the tragic crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane last month, which resulted in the deaths of 38 people. The crash occurred during an emergency landing after Russian air defenses misidentified the plane as a threat.
In response to the suspension of flights to Moscow, El Al has focused its efforts on expanding its European network, diverting the eight weekly flights originally scheduled for Moscow to high-demand destinations in Europe. This includes increases in the number of weekly flights to key cities:
- Paris: Increased from 23 to 25 weekly flights
- Vienna: Increased from 5 to 6 weekly flights
- Frankfurt: Increased from 6 to 8 weekly flights
- Zurich: Increased from 7 to 9 weekly flights
- Munich: Increased from 5 to 6 weekly flights
This adjustment comes as part of El Al's continued efforts to meet the demands of travelers and ensure smooth operations following the disruption caused by the geopolitical and safety concerns in the region.
As Israel grapples with fluctuating currency exchange rates, the strengthening of the euro and continued volatility of the shekel against the US dollar and other currencies remain a focal point for the economy. El Al's focus on European flights may also help mitigate any negative effects from these fluctuations on its operations.
