An explosive device planted by terrorists detonated near a humanitarian convoy evacuating patients from the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Jabalya, located in the northern Gaza Strip, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported early Monday.
The convoy, which was facilitating the transfer of medical equipment, food, and water to the hospital, sustained damage from shrapnel. No injuries were reported among the convoy staff. However, six children inside the nearby hospital were wounded due to the explosion, and the hospital building also suffered damage.
In recent days, the IDF and the Shin Bet security agency have conducted targeted operations at the Kamal Adwan Hospital to counter terror activities in the area. Prior to these operations, the IDF facilitated the evacuation of civilians and ensured that emergency medical care continued, according to military statements.
The IDF reported that Hamas militants, including some who participated in the October 7 attacks, had embedded themselves within the hospital. During their operations, troops discovered weapons, funds intended for terrorist activities, and intelligence documents inside the facility.
Ambulance Driver Confirms Hospital Used for Terror Purposes
Last week, footage released by the IDF showed an ambulance driver from the hospital confirming, during an interrogation by security officials, that Hamas utilizes hospitals for terrorist purposes.
"Hamas military operatives are present; they are in the courtyards, at the gates of the buildings, in the offices of Kamal Adwan Hospital," the driver stated. "They operate ambulances to transport their wounded military operatives and to transport them for their missions, and this is instead of using the ambulances for the benefit of civilians."
He added, "We, the public in the northern Gaza Strip, are sick of this situation. We have had enough; they [Hamas] are stationed in the hospitals, stationed in the schools."
