Sheikh Muhammad Ali Hammadi, a senior Hezbollah official, has reportedly died after being shot outside his home in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley. According to Al-Akhbar, a Hezbollah-affiliated news source, Hammadi was instantly killed when unknown gunmen opened fire on him. The identity of the attackers remains unclear at this time, with security forces launching an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the assassination.
An-Nahar, a Lebanese news outlet, suggested that the motive behind Hammadi's killing was not politically driven. Instead, it is believed to stem from a long-standing family feud that has been ongoing for the past four years.
The death of Hammadi has sparked interest due to his potential connection to a notorious figure in international crime. Some reports suggest that he may be the same individual as Muhammad Hammadi, who is on the FBI's most-wanted list for his involvement in a 1985 hijacking of a West German plane. During the hijacking, an American service member was tortured to death. Hammadi is wanted for several charges, including hostage-taking, air piracy, and murder.
Though Pakistani intelligence reports suggested Hammadi's death in a strike in 2015, the FBI continued to list him as wanted, leaving open the possibility that his death was unconfirmed.
As investigations continue, the death of this prominent Hezbollah figure has raised questions about potential internal conflicts within the organization and the wider geopolitical implications of the incident.
