The Iranian-backed Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah fired a barrage of 20 rockets at the northern Israeli city of Safed at 1 AM on Friday morning, causing some damage to a building in the nearby village of Dalton and starting a large fire in the Birya Forest, north of Safed. Hezbollah claimed to have directed their fire at a nearby military base, the latest instance where they make such a claim after causing damage to civilian areas.
The Israel Fire and Rescue service, asssisted by local volunteers, managed to get the forest fire under control by 7AM, according to a statement.
Situated some 13 kilometers south of the border, Safed's approximately 38,000 residents have not evacuated their homes as residents of communities closer to the border have.
Hezbollah fired over 100 rockets into northern Israel on Wednesday and Thursday, while the IDF struck Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, including rocket launchers and individual Hezbollah operatives.
