Despite suffering significant military degradation at the hands of Israel, Lebanon's Hezbollah is reportedly making efforts to rebuild its forces and stockpiles. According to updated US intelligence shared with Reuters, Hezbollah, an Iran-backed group, has begun recruiting new fighters and is attempting to rearm through domestic production and smuggling materials via Syria, despite a shaky ceasefire between the group and Israel.

The recent ceasefire, which prohibits Hezbollah from acquiring weapons or parts, has not halted the group's determination to rebuild its capabilities. Israel has actively targeted Hezbollah's ability to regain strength, striking rocket launchers in Lebanon, bombing Syrian border crossings, and blocking suspected Iranian aircraft ferrying weapons to Hezbollah.

Although Hezbollah has lost over half of its weapons stockpiles and a substantial number of fighters in recent conflicts with Israel, the group remains operational, maintaining thousands of short-range rockets and continuing its efforts to rebuild military strength. US intelligence sources assess that Hezbollah's firepower is currently limited but acknowledge the group's resilience in reorganizing its forces.

US officials are also concerned about Hezbollah's continued access to Syria, where it has long used the country as a logistical hub for arms smuggling. Washington is working to pressure Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to restrict Hezbollah's operations in Syria, and has discussed potential sanctions relief for Assad if he cuts off weapons routes to Hezbollah.

Despite Israel's ongoing military efforts to weaken the group, Hezbollah's leadership remains committed to its "resistance" role against Israel. However, they have many other priorities including rebuilding the villages in southern Lebanon where many of their supporters live and which were severely damaged in the recent war.
