A Houthi missile fired from Yemen triggered sirens across central Israel early on Friday morning. Fortunately, the missile was intercepted by Israel's air defense system before it could enter Israeli territory. However, 18 people were injured while rushing to safe rooms, with two treated for anxiety, according to Magen David Adom, Israel's emergency medical service.
While no direct casualties were reported from missile debris, several flights to Israel were diverted due to the missile threat.
This missile attack comes after recent Israeli airstrikes targeted Houthi infrastructure in Yemen, marking the largest Israeli operation against the group since the conflict began. Israeli forces hit multiple strategic locations, including airports and ports used by the Houthis to smuggle weapons from Iran.
In response, Israeli officials emphasized their determination to continue countering the Houthi threat, with Defense Minister Israel Katz pledging to eliminate Houthi leadership and halt their destabilizing actions.
