The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a series of powerful airstrikes in southern Lebanon late Thursday, marking one of the most intense operations since the conflict with Hezbollah began. Lebanese media reported at least 70 strikes targeting key Hezbollah positions, including rocket launchers and military infrastructure, lasting only 20 minutes but leaving enormous destruction in their wake. Reports indicated that at least 100 launchers and over 1,000 rockets that were loaded into launchers and ready to fire were destroyed, along with other military infrastructure.

This latest escalation follows an earlier round of strikes that took place during a speech by Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, where he issued fresh threats against Israel and vowed that the fighting would not cease until the war in Gaza ends.

Hezbollah responded throughout the day by firing rockets and drones into Israeli towns, with 17 attacks claimed by the terror organization—one of the highest daily tallies since the start of the conflict. One of the most severe barrages targeted the town of Metula, causing damage and lightly injuring a woman.

The situation has sparked growing concern among global powers, particularly the United States. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the Pentagon is increasingly worried that Israel is preparing for a ground operation in Lebanon. While there are no indications of an immediate invasion, the recent movement of Israel’s elite 98th Division to the northern front has fueled speculation that a major offensive could be in the works.

The deployment of this elite unit, which includes the IDF's Commando and Paratroopers Brigades, signals a shift in focus to the northern border. As Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has emphasized in recent statements, the north has become a key priority for the IDF in its efforts to ensure security and allow residents evacuated from the region to return home safely.

The White House expressed its concerns, stating that a diplomatic solution is still possible, but the window for action is shrinking. President Joe Biden and other world leaders are urging all sides to avoid an all-out war.

Meanwhile, the IDF has issued a rare warning, stating that military exercises will be conducted in training areas across the north over the coming weekend, cautioning the public to stay clear of these areas.

As tensions mount, the coming days will be critical in determining whether the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah escalates further into a broader regional war.
