The IDF reported early Tuesday afternoon that it had accomplished several of its initial objectives in the campaign to push Hezbollah away from the border and destroy its military capabilities south of the Litani River. The soldiers have met little organized resistance so far, and IDF spokesman R.-Adm. Daniel Hagari said that operations will soon be expanded.
The plan at this point is for the forces to be deployed in southern Lebanon for a few weeks, during which time Hezbollah's firing positions, tunnels and other military infrastructure will be destroyed before the IDF withdraws.
The IDF has been running special operations raids against Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon for the past several months and has reportedly discovered many of the tunnels and other infrastructure Hezbollah built there. The larger units now being deployed will be tasked with destroying this infrastructure. While this is going on, air strikes to eliminate Hezbollah's rockets and launchers further north, so they cannot pose a threat to Israel's home front, will continue.
Meanwhile, reports out of Syria indicate that an airstrike destroyed at least three anti-aircraft radar stations, including one stationed near an airbase near the city of Sweida.
