The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Friday that they had opened fire on an armed group operating in the Syrian Golan Heights. No casualties were reported in the incident, and IDF troops are continuing their operations in the area, which remains a sensitive and strategically important region.

The exchange of fire took place near the village of Turnejeh, where Syrian media outlets reported that armed groups had fired upon IDF soldiers who were deployed to the area. The IDF emphasized that the operation was carried out to eliminate potential threats and ensure the safety of Israeli citizens.

Early reports from media outlets linked to a coalition of groups opposed to Israeli actions, indicated that the Islamic Resistance Front in Syria (IRFS) claimed responsibility for the attack. The IRFS was founded in December following the collapse of the Assad regime, as a response to the perceived inaction of the Syrian government regarding Israel.

According to the Alma Research Center, this group is notable for being the first Islamic organization created by the historically secular Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP). The SSNP was an important ally of both Hezbollah and the Assad regime in Syria. It played a significant role during the Lebanese Civil War, aligning with Hezbollah in opposition to Israel. The group's importance has since diminished, especially in light of Israeli military actions that have weakened its influence in the region.

The recent incident in the Syrian Golan reflects the ongoing security challenges faced by Israel, particularly in areas where militant groups operate with support from regional powers like Iran and Hezbollah.
