The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), with support from Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) intelligence, successfully eliminated Ahmad Abd el-Halim Abu Hussein, a senior Hamas terrorist responsible for rocket and mortar fire attacks in Gaza. Abu Hussein, who played a key role in the Western Jabalya Battalion of Hamas, was linked to several attacks on Israeli civilians and soldiers. His elimination follows a broader IDF operation targeting Hamas militants involved in the October 7 massacre, including Muhammad Abd al-Rahman Muhammad Zakout, who infiltrated Israel and participated in the attacks.
In a separate operation, IDF soldiers operating in southern Lebanon located and dismantled numerous rocket launchers aimed at Israeli communities in the Galilee area. These findings came as part of ongoing efforts to weaken Hezbollah's military presence near Israel's northern border. Over the weekend, the Israel Air Force (IAF) struck dozens of Hezbollah targets across southern and central Lebanon, including command centers, weapons storage facilities, and rocket launchers that had fired on Haifa Bay and other parts of central Israel.
The strikes come amid a broader escalation in tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, as the IDF continues to dismantle Hezbollah's capabilities in Lebanon. The IAF’s operations aim to disrupt Hezbollah’s ability to launch rocket attacks on Israeli territory.
Continued Violence in Gaza
The conflict in Gaza remains intense, with the IDF issuing new evacuation orders for residents of Gaza's Shejaia suburb after Hamas launched rockets from the densely populated area. Evacuations sparked another wave of displacement, as families fled to safer regions in the south. This marks the latest in a series of displacements since the onset of hostilities over a year ago.
Military Strategy and International Aid
Despite the ongoing military operations, Israel has facilitated the delivery of medical supplies and fuel to Gaza in coordination with international organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO).
