Tensions Surge as Hezbollah Uses ‘Qadr 1’ Long-Range Missile
In a significant escalation, Hezbollah fired a long-range "Qadr 1" missile toward Tel Aviv this morning – marking the first instance of a missile being launched from Lebanon toward this central Israeli city during the current conflict. The attack reportedly targeted an alleged Mossad facility, which Hezbollah claims is responsible for the recent series of strikes against their command structures.
In response, Israel’s Air Force launched a series of intense strikes against Hezbollah positions, weapon depots, and missile-launching facilities across Southern Lebanon. The IDF confirmed targeting and destroying the launcher used for the Tel Aviv strike, signaling Israel’s swift and decisive response to this act of aggression.
Renewed Missile Barrages Amid Rising Tensions
Shortly after Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the Tel Aviv attack, another barrage of rockets was fired toward northern Israel, triggering air raid sirens in areas like Zikhron Ya'akov, Yokneam, and Daliyat al-Karmel. The IDF reported intercepting several of these rockets, with some falling in open areas. In a quick retaliation, Israel's Air Force targeted the missile launcher in Tebenine, Southern Lebanon, and continued striking Hezbollah's weapon caches across the region.
Mass Evacuations and Fear in Lebanon
Amid escalating tensions, Lebanon is witnessing a surge in displaced residents fleeing from Southern Lebanon. Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib stated that over 110,000 people have already been displaced, with fears that the number might climb to half a million in the coming days. Refugees are currently sheltering in schools transformed into temporary shelters in Beirut, Mount Lebanon, Sidon, the Bekaa Valley, and other regions. The ongoing exodus has led to a scarcity of essentials like mattresses, blankets, and pillows, adding to the already dire humanitarian situation.
No Serious Diplomatic Efforts Yet, as Tensions Escalate
Despite mounting tensions, reports indicate that Lebanon has yet to receive any serious diplomatic proposals to ease the conflict. While French envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian's recent visit was seen as fruitless, with no concrete peace proposal on the table, Lebanon is still waiting for tangible steps from international mediators. Egyptian, Qatari, and Turkish attempts to intervene have also stalled, as they reportedly failed to secure assurances from Israel in exchange for Hezbollah halting its attacks.
