Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued orders for its members to stop using electronic communications devices following the pager and walkie talkie attack against Hezbollah in Lebanon. Two Iranian officials spoke with the Reuters news agency this week, saying that a large-scale effort is underway to complete diagnostic tests on all manner of equipment, although much of it is domestically produced or imported from China and Russia.
“For now, we are using end-to-end encryption in messaging systems,” said one official, without elaborating.
Iran's internal security apparatus is also scrambling to interview large numbers of IRGC mid and high-level operatives in order to find those they suspect of collaborating with Israel.
“This includes scrutiny of their bank accounts both in Iran and abroad, as well as their travel history and that of their families,” the security official said.
Another official spoke about Iran's nuclear facilities and missile production plants, saying that “since last year, security measures at those sites have increased significantly...there has never, ever been such tight security and extreme measures in place as there are now."
