Israel has escalated its military operations in the region, carrying out airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in the village of Janta in eastern Lebanon. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the attacks early Friday morning, targeting terror infrastructure sites used for smuggling weaponry from Syria into Lebanon. Additional airstrikes hit targets in the Bekaa Valley, including an underground facility involved in weapons development and manufacturing.

According to the Lebanese health ministry, two people were killed in the Israeli strike. The military action came just days after a Hezbollah drone entered Israeli airspace, prompting the Israeli Air Force to intercept it. This drone incursion violated the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon and escalates tensions in the region, as Hezbollah has previously threatened to break the ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Israel's presence in southern Syria remains firmly in place. Defense Minister Israel Katz reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to maintaining control over the Golan Heights, stating that Israeli forces will remain in the area "for an unlimited time period." Katz emphasized that Israel would not allow hostile forces to establish themselves in southern Syria and would not rely on others for its security.

These developments are part of Israel’s broader strategy to prevent the entrenchment of hostile forces along its borders, following the trauma of the October 7 Hamas attacks. As the region grapples with ongoing conflict, Israel is asserting its military presence to protect its national security and prevent further threats from emerging along its borders.
