The Israeli Air Force carried out a powerful strike on the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen on Sunday, destroying oil storage tanks and other strategic infrastructures in the port of Hodeidah and in Ras Issa. The strikes, which Israel carried out 1,800 kilomters from Israeli air space, included dozens of aircraft and came in retaliation for repeated firings of ballistic missiles at Israel by the Houthis in recent weeks, with the latest such attack coming on Saturday.

Power stations in Hodeidah were also hit, along with other infrastructure, and videos of massive fires in both cities soon began to appear on various news portals.

A statement by the Houthis soon after the strikes indicated that they would not be deterred from attacking Israel, saying they were doing so in solidarity with Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

IDF Chief of the General Staff Herzi Halevi said, “We know how to reach very far, we know how to reach even farther, and we know how to strike there with precision.”

“I'm looking at the axis, led by Iran, with Hezbollah as a very central factor. Hezbollah has been hit very hard in the last month, the last two weeks, and the last three days, it has lost its head, and we need to keep hitting Hezbollah hard. This is the main focus, and we must also adapt our tools for other places."
