On Sunday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a strong statement in his first congratulatory letter to newly appointed U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, signaling the possibility of military action against Iran in the upcoming months. Katz emphasized the growing threat posed by Iran and its allies to regional and global stability, stressing that Israel is more prepared than ever to face these challenges.
"Iran and its partners continue to threaten regional and global stability," Katz wrote. "The upcoming months present us with challenges that require military readiness and opportunities that allow us to further our strategic goals." He expressed confidence that Israel and the United States, working together, would be able to create long-term stability and a better future for the region.
Katz has previously stated that Israel is primed to take action against Iran’s nuclear facilities, with several Israeli and U.S. officials echoing concerns about Iran's nuclear ambitions. In his letter, Katz highlighted the significant military preparedness Israel has developed in recent months, noting that the IDF's air force now possesses the capability to strike Iran’s nuclear sites with deadly precision.
A critical milestone in Israel’s defense strategy came after Israel’s counterattack in late October, which successfully destroyed key Iranian air defenses. This attack followed Iran’s direct missile strikes on Israeli territory in April and October, further escalating tensions. Katz emphasized the vulnerability of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, suggesting that Israel’s military is fully capable of neutralizing this threat.
In his letter to Hegseth, Katz also underscored the importance of the longstanding defense alliance between Israel and the U.S., noting that the United States' support plays a critical role in maintaining Israel’s qualitative military edge. Recently, both countries confirmed a deal involving the delivery of advanced fighter jets, including F-35 and F-15-EX aircraft, to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
"The support of the United States during the war highlights the strength and importance of our defense partnership, proving that when we stand together, we are stronger," Katz concluded.
