Swedish authorities reported on Friday that three men were arrested near the Israeli embassy in Stockholm on suspicion of preparing to commit a violent crime. While the motive behind the apprehension remains unclear, officials are investigating whether the diplomatic mission was a potential target.
The suspects, whose identities have not been disclosed, were detained close to the embassy. Swedish broadcaster TV4 cited sources suggesting the men may have been planning an attack on the Israeli diplomatic mission. Stockholm Police spokeswoman Susanna Rinaldo confirmed the arrests but emphasized that it was too early to determine if the embassy had been the intended target.
The case is being processed under the charge of preparing for dangerous public destruction. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the suspects' motive and any potential links to extremist activities.
In a related incident, a Russian national, aged 18, was arrested in Berlin after reportedly planning a bombing attack on the Israeli embassy. The teen, with possible ties to the Islamic State, was apprehended at Berlin Brandenburg Airport while attempting to fly to Turkey, where he intended to join ISIS.
Authorities continue to heighten security measures as they investigate both incidents.
