According to a report in the Kuwaiti news portal Al-Jarida, US officials recently proposed to their Israeli counterparts that the Jewish State could swap territory with Lebanon as part of a plan to ease tensions with the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorist group. The proposal came as Hezbollah has dramatically increased the pace of its rocket attacks into Israel, including a large barrage Sunday morning that resulted in damage to the border community of Kiryat Shmona.
The report indicated that Israeli negotiators are holding firm on their demand that Hezbollah withdraw all forces north of the Litani River, as UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which brought the Second Lebanon War in 2006 to an end, stipulates. Meanwhile, Hezbollah appears to also be holding firm on its refusal to adhere to this UN Resolution and also sticking to its narrative that Israel is the aggressor.
