The White House has recently resumed a shipment of 1,800 one-ton bomb deliveries to Israel that had been frozen under former US President Joe Biden's administration. These shipments had been held back since May 2024, following the Israeli military operation in Rafah. However, the recent release of these shipments is part of a broader shift in US policy toward Israel under the current administration.

Earlier on Saturday, US President Donald Trump took to social media platform Truth Social, announcing that a significant number of weapons previously ordered and paid for by Israel were now en route. He stated, "A lot of things that were ordered and paid for by Israel but have not been sent by Biden are now on their way!"

Background to the Arms Freeze

The freeze on the arms shipments came after President Biden expressed concerns over Israel's military actions in Rafah, a city in Gaza. During a CNN interview, Biden warned that the US would halt weapons shipments if Israel proceeded with a large-scale operation in the city. This move was also connected to concerns over civilian casualties during the ongoing conflict.

In a response to these concerns, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed that one shipment of munitions had been paused to Israel. The Biden administration emphasized that the halt was related to the use of bombs and other weaponry in Gaza, where civilian casualties had been reported.

In related developments, Israel's counterterrorism operations continued in the northern West Bank. On Friday evening, the Israeli Air Force conducted an airstrike in the Qabatia neighborhood of Jenin, killing 10 militants, apprehending 20 wanted individuals, and seizing weapons. Palestinian sources reported at least 12 deaths in the operation, including two members of Hamas’s armed wing.

The Israeli military highlighted that these actions were part of a larger effort to dismantle an axis of Iranian-backed groups across the West Bank, Lebanon, and Yemen.
