Amid ongoing conflict, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has deepened as residents attempting to return to northern Gaza have been forced to turn back due to widespread destruction. Many were initially encouraged by Hamas to return to their homes in the northern region, but upon arrival, they found their properties destroyed and no hope of rebuilding.
Viral videos and posts, shared across social media platforms, depict the heartbreaking scenes of Gazans returning south after seeing the ruin of their homes and communities. One individual interviewed on the Qatari Al-Araby channel recounted, "I couldn’t find anything… There’s no life, no nothing. Even if I bring my tent there, there’s no life."
The scale of devastation is undeniable, and many residents have expressed feelings of hopelessness and loss. A woman from the education sector, whose villa was destroyed in the war, lamented, "Two entire generations were destroyed... We were humiliated. I call on our President Mahmoud Abbas to save us."
As more videos and reports emerge, the voices of those affected are growing louder. One live broadcast from the Falasteen TV channel showed large groups of Gazans returning south, with many of them describing the destruction in the north as "complete" and filled with rubble.
The widespread damage has sparked frustration, as many are questioning the promises made by Hamas. A man, standing amidst the rubble, cursed the leaders of Hamas, calling them out for their role in the devastation, while others voiced similar sentiments on social media, expressing their anger at what they see as unfulfilled promises.
In addition to the personal tragedy, there are growing concerns about the future of Gaza and the refugees. Commentators have noted the dire need for basic humanitarian aid, including tents, fuel, and heavy machinery to help clear the roads and provide some form of shelter and stability for those displaced.
