Iran has revealed a new underground base housing cruise missiles, designed to target destroyers in the strategic southern waters. This announcement was made by the Iranian Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as part of its ongoing show of military strength and defensive preparedness.
The unveiling took place on the same day as "Islamic Revolution Guards Day," celebrated by Iran to honor the sacrifices and contributions of the IRGC. The new missile facility, referred to as a "missile city," is part of Iran’s strategy to demonstrate its ability to protect its military assets by keeping them hidden underground, away from potential enemy attacks.
IRGC Chief Commander Major General Hossein Salami visited the new facility and emphasized its combat readiness, noting that the missiles stationed at the base are equipped to counter electronic warfare and can be activated swiftly in the event of a confrontation. This marks the third underground missile base unveiled by the IRGC in less than a month, with earlier launches occurring in mid-January.
The IRGC has made it clear that its ballistic missile capabilities serve as a deterrent against Israel and the US, while Iran continues to pursue its nuclear program. In 2024, Iran launched multiple large-scale missile and drone attacks on Israel, further heightening tensions in the region.
In addition to the missile base, Iran also showcased its local manufacturing prowess by unveiling a large gas turbine, which is typically produced by global companies such as General Electric and Siemens. The unveiling serves as a statement of Iran’s self-sufficiency and ability to produce critical technologies despite international sanctions.
As Iran flexes its military muscle, it also seeks to reinitiate talks with the US while celebrating the IRGC’s role in the country’s defense and national security.
