On Monday night, IDF troops successfully eliminated Isser Sa'adi, the head of the Hamas terrorist organization, in a targeted operation in Jenin. The operation, directed by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), resulted in the death of Sa'adi, alongside two additional terrorists, and the arrest of three other wanted individuals.
The operation began with IDF soldiers, supported by Border Police from the Menashe Brigade, entering a neighborhood in Jenin using Eitan armored vehicles. Acting on intelligence gathered by the Shin Bet, troops identified a building where Sa'adi was hiding. A firefight ensued, culminating in the neutralization of the terrorists. During a subsequent search of the building, an M-16 rifle, a pistol, and other weapons were recovered.
February Counterterrorism Efforts
The IDF has been intensifying operations throughout the West Bank. In February, as part of Operation Iron Wall, 25 terrorists were eliminated, including arms dealers, bomb makers, and individuals allegedly planning attacks. In addition to these eliminations, approximately 350 wanted individuals were arrested, and 120 weapons were confiscated.
Ongoing Operations and Expansion
In line with government directives, Defense Minister Israel Katz has ordered the IDF to increase operations in refugee camps in the West Bank following a series of attempted terrorist attacks in the Gush Dan region. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also instructed the military to "launch a powerful operation against terrorist strongholds in Judea and Samaria."
Phase two of Operation Iron Wall includes establishing IDF outposts in West Bank refugee camps to prevent fleeing terrorists from returning. As part of this initiative, IDF forces are set to remain in the Jenin and Tulkarm refugee camps for the foreseeable future.
Recent Violence in the West Bank
On Tuesday, IDF troops also apprehended 19 wanted individuals in a West Bank operation, including Hamas terrorists. In a separate incident, a terrorist shot at IDF troops at a checkpoint near Burqa. The terrorist was neutralized by security forces, with no reported injuries.
