On Tuesday, Defense Minister Israel Katz announced a series of sanctions targeting Israeli citizens and residents with ties to terrorism. The sanctions specifically target security prisoners and their families who receive financial support from the Palestinian Authority (PA). The measures include the confiscation of assets and cash worth hundreds of thousands of shekels from the homes of those affected.
The sanctions were imposed as part of Israel's broader effort to combat terror financing. According to the Ministry of Defense, the funds were directed to Palestinian prisoners convicted of terrorism-related offenses, as well as their families. These funds were seen as compensation for terrorist acts, with the PA being accused of rewarding individuals involved in violence against Israeli citizens.
In addition to the sanctions, Israel froze NIS 470 million allocated to the PA, money that had been intended to compensate victims of terrorism. Katz emphasized that this move was necessary to prevent further financial incentives for terrorism. “No more rewards for terrorism,” Katz stated. He further condemned the PA’s practice of providing "blood money" to individuals who have committed acts of violence. Katz added that Israel is committed to fighting terrorism through military action, economic measures, and every available means.
This decision represents a significant step in Israel’s ongoing efforts to sever financial support for terrorism and undermine organizations that fuel violence. Katz’s firm stance reflects Israel’s continued battle to protect its citizens and prevent further terror-related activities.
