American airline JetBlue issued a statement on Sunday apologizing for an onboard map which covered the Middle East and put the label "Palestinian Territories" in large bold type above the State of Israel.
"We’re sorry for the concern this has caused," the airline said in a statement to the Israeli news portal Ynet. "We can assure you that no one on the JetBlue team was involved with drawing or labeling the map of the region and we were not previously aware of the issue."
"After a careful review, we have decided to switch to a new map vendor," added the company in a press statement to the general public. "While our content provider works on making this transition, we have also asked the current vendor to adjust our onboard map so that it aligns with the U.S. government’s map guidance for the region. We are making these changes as quickly as the technology allows."
In a related story, soft drinks being sold under the label 'Cola Gaza' and 'Cola Palestine' are gaining popularity in Europe, where boycotting Israeli and American companies that do business in Israel has become very trendy.
Large, well-known brands including Coca-Cola, McDonald's and Starbucks have all seen sales slump in recent months as Europeans prefer brands that signal their support for the Palestinian cause. This trend has been picked up by Palestinian and Arab expats in European countries who launched brands meant to cater to these tastes. A similar trend can be observed in Arab and majority Moslem countries.
