Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the return of Israeli hostages Agam Berger, Gadi Moses, and Arbel Yehud in a video statement published on Thursday. The hostages were freed from Hamas captivity through Israel’s recent ceasefire agreement with the terror group.
In his heartfelt message, Netanyahu welcomed the hostages back, saying, "Agam, Arbel, Gadi - welcome home! The entire State of Israel embraces you, and so do my wife Sarah and I." He further emphasized Israel's unwavering commitment to the security of its citizens, particularly the hostages, stating, “We will not accept any violation of the ceasefire agreement,” and sent a strong warning to those considering harming the released individuals: “Whoever dares to harm our hostages will have their blood on their own hands.”
Netanyahu praised the efforts of Israel’s military forces in securing the release, crediting “our heroic soldiers” for their crucial role. He also mentioned the firm stance Israel took during negotiations that led to the release of the hostages, reaffirming the country’s dedication to the protection of its citizens.
In a separate statement, Netanyahu discussed the ongoing process of selecting a new Chief of Staff for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The Prime Minister conducted interviews with top candidates, including Maj. Gen. Eyal Zamir and Maj. Gen. Amir Baram, as the current IDF Chief, Herzi Halevi, prepares to step down in March. There is speculation that Maj. Gen. Tamir Yadai, a highly experienced officer, could emerge as a surprising contender for the role.
