Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to undergo prostate removal surgery on Sunday after being diagnosed with a urinary tract infection stemming from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The surgery, which will be performed under full anesthesia at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem, comes after several days of antibiotic treatment that successfully eradicated the infection.
Netanyahu’s office confirmed the procedure and noted that while the surgery is necessary, he will remain hospitalized for a few days for recovery. Despite his medical situation, the Prime Minister’s office reassured the public that Sunday's scheduled cabinet meeting would proceed as planned.
Additionally, Netanyahu’s attorney, Amit Hadad, submitted a request to the Jerusalem District Court to cancel the Prime Minister's scheduled testimony in his ongoing corruption trial this week due to the surgery. Hadad also assured the court that updates on Netanyahu's health would be provided as needed.
The health scare began earlier this week when Netanyahu underwent an examination at Hadassah Hospital, where the urinary tract infection was detected. The Prime Minister has received treatment for the infection, which reportedly responded well to the antibiotics, but the prostate removal surgery was deemed necessary for his long-term health.
This medical procedure marks a temporary pause in Netanyahu’s public schedule, but the government assures that the necessary political functions will continue.
