Israeli security forces have confirmed the tragic discovery of the body of Youssef al-Ziyadne, 53, in the Gaza Strip. His remains were found in a tunnel in Rafah, and alongside them, the bodies of two terrorists who were reportedly guarding him were also uncovered. This discovery is part of ongoing efforts to recover hostages taken during Hamas’s invasion of southern Israel on October 7, 2023.

Youssef al-Ziyadne was abducted from Kibbutz Holit, along with three of his children. His family, particularly his brother Ali, had hoped for his return. After learning that his body had been found, Ali Ziyadne shared his deep sorrow, expressing his wish that his brother had come home alive. He explained how his family had hoped for Youssef’s release, especially after seeing reports that he may have been among the hostages scheduled for release during the ceasefire.

Youssef leaves behind 18 children, two wives, and numerous grandchildren, as reported by N12. His son, Hamza, remains missing, and there are concerns about his fate as well.

Political Reactions and Condolences

Israel’s leadership has expressed their condolences following Youssef's death. President Isaac Herzog mourned the loss, emphasizing the family's tragedy and calling for continued efforts to bring home all hostages, both the living and the deceased. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also expressed deep sorrow, stating that Israel will continue its efforts to return the hostages, including those lost.

Defense Minister Israel Katz extended his condolences to the family, remembering his close relationship with Youssef’s brother, Ali, and reaffirming Israel’s commitment to the return of all hostages.

The Hostages Families Forum also expressed its grief, urging for a comprehensive deal to bring all hostages home. They stressed that the return of the deceased, such as Youssef, for proper burial is an urgent matter, and they continue to await updates on Hamza’s fate.

In Rahat, the city where Youssef lived, the mayor has declared a day of mourning to honor his memory. Youssef’s tragic death highlights the ongoing dangers faced by hostages in Gaza, and his family’s heartache underscores the need for continued international efforts to secure the return of all those still held captive.
