US President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Adam Boehler as his special envoy for hostage affairs, marking a significant step in efforts to secure the release of American hostages abroad. Boehler, a former CEO of the US International Development Finance Corporation and key negotiator for the Abraham Accords, thanked Trump for the opportunity to serve, emphasizing that bringing Americans home is his top priority.
"Under @realDonaldTrump’s leadership, there will finally be action and consequences," Boehler said, highlighting the urgency to resolve hostage situations.
Boehler’s appointment comes as Trump prepares to take office on January 20. His national security advisor, Mike Waltz, is expected to meet with Israel’s Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer to discuss a potential Gaza hostage deal and the Iranian threat. This dialogue comes just weeks before Trump’s inauguration, a time when he has vowed to end Middle East conflicts.
Trump’s statement on the situation made it clear that any delays in releasing the hostages would come with "all hell to pay." "Those responsible will be hit harder than anybody has been hit in the long and storied History of the United States of America," Trump warned.
The new appointment has drawn support from key figures like David Friedman, former US ambassador to Israel, who praised Boehler’s experience in the region. Friedman expressed confidence in Boehler’s ability to develop a strategy that could outperform previous efforts to free hostages.
