Col. Ayub Kayouf, the commander of the IDF Menashe Brigade, was moderately injured on Wednesday morning when an explosive device targeted an IDF vehicle during a counterterrorism operation in the West Bank city of Tulkarm. The explosive device hit the vehicle, which was a David APC, and Col. Kayouf was evacuated for medical treatment. The IDF has confirmed that his family has been notified of the incident.
Alongside Col. Kayouf was Brig.-Gen. Yaki Dolf, the commanding officer of the Judea and Samaria Division, who was unharmed in the attack. The IDF confirmed that no other passengers were injured.
This incident comes amid a large-scale IDF operation in the West Bank, which has been ongoing since August. The operation includes extensive missions in areas such as Tulkarm and Jenin, where IDF bulldozers have been used to destroy roads and infrastructure as a precaution against explosive devices reportedly planted by Hamas and other terrorist groups.
