On Sunday, President Isaac Herzog and senior Israeli leaders gathered to honor the remarkable dedication of Magen David Adom (MDA) personnel during a special event organized by the Israeli Friends of MDA Society. The ceremony, attended by bereaved families, donors, and MDA staff, recognized the heroic contributions of MDA throughout the Israel-Hamas War.
President Herzog expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering commitment shown by MDA workers, particularly during the October 7th attacks on Israel. He praised their extraordinary efforts, stating, “You ran, and continue to run, into the fire with extraordinary dedication... inspiring solidarity and profound commitment to your mission.” Herzog also highlighted MDA’s resilience and ethical foundations, built over decades of service.
MDA Global President Gilad Erdan revealed shocking details about the dangers faced by MDA personnel, sharing that Hamas operatives had specifically targeted MDA stations and ambulances. This confirmation underscored the immense risks faced by first responders committed to saving lives on the front lines.
The event featured powerful stories of heroism, including that of MDA paramedic Aviv Shneur, who treated his critically injured friend after their ambulance was attacked, and EMT Adam Safadi, who continued to help the injured despite the personal loss of his daughter in a missile strike.
MDA Director-General Eli Bin highlighted the organization's strength and adaptability, emphasizing the vital role played by MDA personnel, groundbreaking technology, and steadfast commitment to saving lives. The evening also saw generous donations of ambulances and medical equipment, which will ensure the continued effectiveness of MDA’s mission.
President Herzog concluded the event by praising MDA’s essential role in strengthening national resilience and serving as a beacon of hope for all Israelis.
